What is the appropriate interest rate for a personal injury loan?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from BNSF Railway Company v Teck Metals Ltd., 2020 BCSC 1133 (CanLII):

Interest is mandatory but a court has discretion with respect to the rate of interest. In Baart v. Kumar, [1985] B.C.J. No. 2461, the rate should be the Registrars’ rate unless it would be manifestly inequitable and unjust not to do so.
