The underlying purpose of the rule allowing for consolidation of pleadings is to avoid multiplicity of proceedings, to promote expeditious and inexpensive determination of the proceedings and to avoid inconsistent judicial findings (Pilon v. Janveaux, 2000 CarswellOnt 4785 (Ont.S.C.J.) at paras 6 to 8).
