The purpose of s. 70 was articulated by Butler J. in Travelers Guarantee Company of Canada v. Ryan, 2012 BCSC 43 at para. 8: Section 70 is aimed at ensuring that lawyers’ accounts are fair and reasonable. It provides for independent review of accounts to ensure that bills issued for legal services are fair.
