The respondent points out that the purpose of providing reasons is described in Lake v. Canada (Minister of Justice), 2008 SCC 23; [2008] 1 S.C.R. 761 at para. 46: The purpose of providing reasons is twofold: to allow the individual to understand why the decision was made; and to allow the reviewing court to assess the validity of the decision.
