The process described in Renaud is one in which all those involved are required to work together to find a solution that adequately balances the competing interests. The process requires that the exchange of proposals continue until a satisfactory resolution is achieved, or it is clear that no such resolution is possible: Norton v. VCHA (No. 2), 2013 BCHRT 76, para. 16. A spirit of co-operation is obviously beneficial to this process. This process can best be achieved with open discussion and a common purpose, rather than disparaging remarks and a closed mind.
