How has privilege been interpreted in the context of disclosure privilege?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Qiao v Owners, Strata Plan LMS 3863, 2020 BCSC 818 (CanLII):

The privilege arises from the occasion on which a communication is made, not the communication itself. The “interest” which gives rise to the privilege “should not be viewed technically or narrowly”; it may be “personal, social, business, financial or legal” and should be assessed with reference to the context in which the statements are made: Popat v. MacLennan, 2014 BCSC 1601 at para. 27.
