Does the petitioner have a "calculated risk" in choosing not to attend the hearing of the matter on November 20, or otherwise be represented?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Murphy v Vancouver Island Health Authority, 2017 BCSC 2255 (CanLII):

Consistent with the decision in McDonnell v. Langret Investments, 1999 BCCA 570, at para. 17, the petitioner took a "calculated risk" in choosing not to appear on November 20, or otherwise be represented. This is particularly so in light of the lengthy history of this matter and the petitioner's obvious awareness of the respondents' desire to set the matter for hearing.
