What is the case law in favour of giving a judge a second chance?

Manitoba, Canada

The following excerpt is from Dakota Ojibway Child and Family Services Inc. v. A.D., 2007 MBPC 39 (CanLII):

It would be well to remember the often cited quote of Freedman C.J.A. in Children’s Aid Society v. Lambert (24 January 1979,) (Man.C.A.) (unreported), where he said: “Despite this evidence the learned trial judge felt that he should give the mother another chance. In our view another chance for the mother is one less chance for child; and it is the child’s welfare that must be our paramount concern.”
