What is the meaning of the word "release"?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from Gemini Group Automated Distribution Systems Inc. v. PWA Corp., 1993 CanLII 9430 (ON SC):

While the word "release" is not directly used here; it appears to be reasonably imported by the Webster Dictionary definition. In this regard see my views on "release" at p. 22 of my July 10, 1993 reasons on Covia v. PWA [ante, p. 75]. However, I think that the meaning of this clause cannot be other than a legal exit when one considers the juxtaposition of the words "extricate" and (legally) "binding".
