What is the impact of the maximum contact principle on custody arrangements?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from A.E.O. v. T.K.O., 2012 BCSC 708 (CanLII):

The maximum contact principle is thus an important factor in determining the appropriate form of custody arrangement but not the only factor. The ability of the parents to co-operate and communicate with each other and their ability to make decisions about the children and follow through with those decisions are also important considerations. The court should also consider how effective detailed and specific court orders would be in reducing or eliminating the parental conflict that adversely affects the children: Ordonez v. Ordonez, 2006 BCSC 1130 at para. 27.
