What is the test for determining the length of trial?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Mainstream Canada v. Staniford, 2012 BCSC 1923 (CanLII):

Concerning the length of trial, I agree with the observation of Mr. Justice Johnston in Meghji v. Lee, 2012 BCSC 379, at para. 54, that: Measuring difficulty by length of trial can be an exercise in ambiguity: relatively straightforward issues assume complexity as a function of the time taken to explore them; conversely, the time spent exploring an issue, or, for example, cross-examining an expert on matters within his or her field of expertise, is not necessarily a function of the issue’s difficulty.
