What is the likelihood of making a support claim for a person who is no longer dependent on the support system in his or her own time?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from P.M.B. v. A.R.C.-A., 2015 ONCJ 720 (CanLII):

The length of time taken to bring the application is an important factor. In Louie v. Lastman, 2002 Canlii 45060 (OCA) the court writes at paragraph 13: ….it is not open to the appellants to come forward and make a support claim decades after they are no longer dependent.
