What is the impact of an interlocutory suspension on a lawyer's reputation and livelihood?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from Law Society of Upper Canada v. McKay, 2016 ONLSTH 174 (CanLII):

The Lawyer’s reputation and livelihood will undoubtedly be affected by an interlocutory suspension. He will suffer personal and financial hardship. However, as has been held in Law Society of Upper Canada v. Baksh[9]: … if protection of the public does compel the imposition of an interlocutory suspension, it would be an error not to make that order because of its possible financial implications to the respondent. That being said, it cannot be denied that an interlocutory suspension would exact a significant financial toll upon the respondent.
