What is the law on misrepresentation in the context of a vehicle sale?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Turner et al v. Hall et al, 2019 BCCRT 637 (CanLII):

17. The law says that if a seller misrepresents the condition of a vehicle, the buyer may be entitled to compensation for losses arising from that misrepresentation. A “misrepresentation” is a false statement of fact made during negotiations or in an advertisement that has the effect of inducing a reasonable person to enter into the contract (see for example, Girodat v. Quackenbush, 2018 BCCRT 361, which is not binding but I find useful).
