What is the applicable law on the test for a claim of false imprisonment?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from B. (E.) v. Order of Oblates, 2001 BCSC 1783 (CanLII):

The applicable law on this issue is that stated succinctly by Brenner C.J. in Blackwater v. Plint, 2001 BCSC 997, where at para. 17 the Chief Justice said, as follows: The test the law requires is not whether the plaintiffs hold an honest belief that the events of which they complain occurred; rather, it is whether they have proven to the standard that the law requires that those events in fact occurred.
