Are prior and at the time of purchase declarations admissible as evidence for or against the party who made them?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Skender v. Skender, 2005 BCSC 418 (CanLII):

In either case, on the authority of Shephard v. Cartwright, [1955] A.C. 431, the law is that acts or declarations of a party before or at the time of purchase are admissible as evidence for or against the party who made the declaration. Subsequent declarations are admissible only as against the party making them.
