Does s. 25(1) of the Criminal Code apply to police officers who use excessive force?

Alberta, Canada

The following excerpt is from R. v Wilcox, 2015 ABPC 147 (CanLII):

Police are placed in positions requiring quick decision-making. The law does not require that officers compromise their safety, but s. 25(1) does not support officer acting in any fashion they see fit. “The police are entitled to be wrong but they must act reasonably”. (See Crampton v. Walton, supra at para. 22). 3. No Unnecessary Force
