What is the law around the presumption of impartiality of a judge?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Wolowidnyk v. Wolowidnyk, 2012 BCCA 158 (CanLII):

As Mr. Justice Hinkson said recently in Sandhu v. Household Realty Corporation Limited, 2012 BCCA 133 at para. 20: There is a strong presumption of impartiality in a judge. An allegation that a judgment may be tainted by bias or by a reasonable apprehension of bias is most serious. That allegation calls into question the impartiality of the court and its members and raises doubt on the public’s perception of the court’s ability to render justice according to law.
