What is the test for an employee to be entitled to an extended notice period?

Alberta, Canada

The following excerpt is from Kozak v. Montreal Engineering Company Ltd., 1984 CanLII 1258 (AB QB):

The aforesaid expressed test still retains the element of reasonableness. A position favourable to the employee was enunciated in the decision in Munana v. MacMillan Bloedel Ltd., [1977] 2 A.C.W.S. 364 (B.C.S.C.), which emphasized the fact that the industry’s business was generally suffering from a period of recession and this thereby enhanced the period of notice.
