How has the doctrine of part performance been applied to estoppel?

Alberta, Canada

The following excerpt is from Voyager Petroleums Ltd. v. Vanguard Petroleums Ltd., 1982 CanLII 1076 (AB QB):

The plaintiff relied heavily on the doctrine of part performance in attempting to support the contract. The learned trial judge held that the principles applicable to the doctrine of part performance were virtually indistinguishable from those applicable to estoppel and in so doing he reviewed Willmott v. Barber, supra, and other leading cases on estoppel.
