There have been many advances in video technology since the observations nearly twelve years ago by Justice Curtis in Ryall v. Ryall, 2009 ONCJ 687, at para. 96, “that modern-day technology has made it significantly easier to overcome the distance problem with respect to access and maximizing contact with the other parent”. Nevertheless, although the availability of modern communications, including video conferencing, can mitigate the effect the relocation on the contact which the child has with her father, I accept that regular video contact is not a complete substitute for regular personal contact.
