The central goal of the discipline process is to protect the public and maintain public confidence in the administration of justice, including confidence in the legal profession (Law Society of BC v. Hill, 2011 LSBC 16, at para. 3). Other principles must also be considered, most particularly the respondent’s prospects for rehabilitation, but where there is a conflict between protecting the public and rehabilitation, the former interest must prevail (Law Society of BC v. Lessing, 2013 LSBC 29, at paras. 13, 57-60; Law Society of BC v. Nguyen, 2016 LSBC 21, para. 36).
