Can a plaintiff make a claim for loss of future income based on their intention to pursue a nursing career?

New Brunswick, Canada

The following excerpt is from Paul Johnston v. Marjorie Jones, 2018 NBQB 123 (CanLII):

The defendant’s counsel also cites Lovelock v. Carbin 1993 CarswellOnt 2543 where a high school student involved in an accident claimed loss of future income based on her intention to pursue a nursing career which was foreclosed because the accident prevented her from carrying out the physical aspects of the job. The trial judge concluded that her claim was speculative and without evidentiary foundation.
