In a BC Supreme Court case, in what circumstances will the court consider success versus loss of custody?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from M. v. M., 2010 BCSC 1826 (CanLII):

In this case, although custody is not the primary issue as it was in Morrison v. Morrison, 2001 BCSC 909, where the court held that in custody matters the court does not view success in terms of winners and losers, the issue of access was still as hard fought as custody often is. The difference in parenting styles and the amount of parenting time that should be shared by each parent took up the majority of time covered in this trial. The best interests of the children became the central issue in this trial. I do not find any conduct of either party as being subject to censure or worthy of rebuke.
