Does a defendant have to be held responsible for damage caused to a plaintiff's horse by his or her mare?

Saskatchewan, Canada

The following excerpt is from Panchuk v. Sadler, 2009 SKPC 106 (CanLII):

Where a defendant’s mare strayed through a defective fence into the plaintiff’s field, kicking the plaintiff’s horse and breaking its leg so that it was necessary to euthanize the plaintiff’s horse, it was held the defendant was responsible for his mare’s trespass and the damage was not too remote (Lee v. Riley[6]).
