What is the legal test for entering a judgment without any formal order being drawn up?

Saskatchewan, Canada

The following excerpt is from Wolgram v. Machinery Manufacturers, Ltd., 1927 CanLII 148 (SK CA):

In view of what was said in Holtby v. Hodgson (1889) 24 Q.B.D. 103, 59 L.J.Q.B. 46, it may be that the fiat alone without any formal order being drawn up was sufficient for entering the judgment, but I prefer to decide this appeal on another ground, because, in my opinion, what was done after the fiat was given had the effect of extending that fiat into a formal order.
