What is the purpose of a cost of future care award?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Klose v Chybisov, 2021 BCSC 333 (CanLII):

The purpose of the cost of future care award is to restore the plaintiff, as best as possible, to the position they would have been in but for the Accident: Gignac v. Insurance Corporation of British Columbia, 2012 BCCA 351 at para. 29.

There must be some evidentiary link between a medical expert’s assessment of disability and the care recommended. However, it is not necessary that a medical expert testify to the medical necessity of each and every item of care that is claimed: Gregory at para. 39, citing Aberdeen v. Zanatta, 2008 BCCA 420 at paras. 43, 63.
