In the context of oppression claims, the court will consider the cause of the change in value of the shares. The general idea is that a party should not benefit from an increase it did not earn nor be penalized for a decrease it did not cause: Runnalls v. Regent Holdings Ltd., 2010 BCSC 1106 at paras. 106-109.
