Is there any case law where the date of a marriage separation was determined on exceptional circumstances?

Alberta, Canada

The following excerpt is from D.B.C. v. R.M.W., 2004 ABQB 954 (CanLII):

Hodgson v. Hodgson, 2002 ABQB 628, presently under appeal, is an example of where exceptional circumstances were found to warrant a separation date valuation. In that case, the wife’s financial circumstances had changed substantially since the parties’ separation 11 years earlier and they had lived very distinct lives from one another during that period. Clearly, these grounds do not exist here.
