How have the courts interpreted the meaning of section 178(1)(c) of the B.C. bankruptcy code?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from B. (K.J.) v. B. (W.S.), 2004 BCSC 837 (CanLII):

The answer to the defendant’s submission that these debts (i.e. compensation order, costs) were not caught by the bankruptcy is found in the decision of Groberman, J. in Manolescu, [2003] B.C.S.C. 1094 and the wording of s. 178(1)(c). There, Mr. Justice Groberman concluded, that costs because they could not be distinguished as being solely in respect to support were caught by the bankruptcy. (See also Melvin v. Nguyen, [2001] B.C.J. 1665)
