In what circumstances will a bank accept a cheque?

Saskatchewan, Canada

The following excerpt is from Bank of Montreal v. Heidt, 1972 CanLII 744 (SK QB):

The same text at p. 861 sets out: “‘In ordinary parlance,’ says Lord Alverstone C.J. in North & South Wales Bank v. Macbeth, [1908] A.C. 137, ‘there is no acceptor to a cheque. The bank which pays the money alone stands in the position of the acceptor. If the bank gives credit it simply honours the cheque and pays the money.’ ”
