Is a claimant entitled to retroactive spousal support for the years from June 1, 2012 to January 2016?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Wilson v. Wilson, 2016 BCSC 1315 (CanLII):

I have concluded that the respondent is entitled to spousal support for the years June 1, 2012, to the date of trial which concluded January 2016. In order to achieve the goals of spousal support and provide the parties with a clean break and to provide the respondent with additional resources to purchase the claimant’s interest in the family home, see: Davis v. Crawford, 2011 ONCA 294 at para. 67. It is my view the claimant should pay a lump sum to the respondent as retroactive and current spousal support.
