In what circumstances will a court order a review of spousal support?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Lay v Lay, 2019 BCSC 1845 (CanLII):

In appropriate circumstances, providing for a review of spousal support can be essential. In cases of genuine and material uncertainty, reviews allow the parties to bring applications to adjust spousal support without having to establish a material change in circumstances. Whenever a review order is made, the issue for review should be “tightly circumscribed”. Otherwise, the parties may see the review “as an invitation to simply reargue their case”, an outcome that should be avoided: Leskun v. Leskun, 2006 SCC 25 at paras. 36-39.
