Does a loss in long-term employment constitute a material change in circumstances for spousal support?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from R.L.C. v R.G.C, 2021 BCSC 2386 (CanLII):

Mr. Justice Edelmann in Wheeler v. Wheeler, 2021 BCSC 1269 found a loss in long-term employment to be a material change in circumstances, warranting a variation of spousal support. Despite 40% of the payor’s pension being earned after the parties’ separation, the pension income still factored into the spousal support amount: at paras. 8, 24.
