The fundamental principle governing special damages is that of restitutio in integrum. The plaintiff is to be restored to the position they would have been in had the accident not occurred: Milina at para. 182. The standard is reasonableness of the expense in the context of the injuries suffered: MacIntosh v. Davison, 2013 BCSC 2264 at para. 127.
