Is a solicitor's unilateral intention to treat his periodic statements of account as final bills to the client valid?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Ace Asphalt & Maintenance Ltd. v. Goodfellow MacKenzie, 1984 CanLII 792 (BC CA):

A unilateral intention on the part of a solicitor to treat his periodic statements of account as final bills, in circumstances where that intention is not both understood and consented to by the client, cannot have the effect of depriving the client of his opportunity to tax the solicitor's accounts, when the services have been completed, in accordance with the principles in Yule v. Saskatoon.
