Anyone considering a plea agreement in respect of a criminal charge is entitled to the confidential advice of the person’s counsel, and solicitor-client privilege attaches to the communications between counsel and client. The principle that communications between a solicitor and his/her client are privileged is recognized as fundamental to the administration of justice. Canada v. Solosky, 1979 CanLII 9 (SCC), [1980] 1 S.C.R. 821.
