The precise standard that governs the exercise of that discretion is not entirely settled. It is clear however that severance orders should only be made infrequently, carefully and bearing in mind that litigating “in slices” should be avoided in most cases (Kitsul v. Slater Vecchio LLP, 2015 BCSC 1394 at para. 25).
