What is the effect of market forces on the value of a pension plan?

Saskatchewan, Canada

The following excerpt is from P.M. v. S.M., 2011 SKQB 126 (CanLII):

No other evidence was produced at trial as to why S.M.’s pension would increase so dramatically. Specifically, evidence that would suggest that it was market forces that drove up the value of the plan. Accordingly, I agree with S.M. for the reasons given by McIntyre J. in Francis v. Cook, that it is not appropriate to value the pension as at the date of trial.
