In what circumstances will a judge refuse to award prejudgment interest on a wife's equalization payment?

Alberta, Canada

The following excerpt is from Bauerfind v. Bauerfind, 1989 CanLII 3375 (AB QB):

In Rawluk v. Rawluk (supra), Mr. Justice Walsh refused to make an award of prejudgment interest on a wife’s equalization payment after noting that few of the assets were earning interest, the assets were mixed and complex, the payment was substantial, and the wife’s right to the equalization payment had arisen very recently.
