In Shongu v. Jing, 2016 BCSC 901 [Shongu], the plaintiff was in a relatively minor car accident and as a result suffered severe psychological problems. He had previously suffered PTSD but had been symptom-free for five years prior to his accident. After referring to Athey and Farrant v. Laktin, 2011 BCCA 336, Justice Sewell summarized his task as the trial judge at para. 67:
