In the case of Pett v. Greyhound Racing Association (No. 1), [1968] 2 All E.R. 545, Lord Denning, speaking for the court was required to determine whether counsel should be allowed to a dog trainer who faced a hearing before a tribunal of track stewards with respect to a charge of doping a dog. It was determined that the trainer should be entitled to counsel and Lord Denning stated at p. 459: “I should have thought therefore that when a man’s reputation or livelihood is at stake not only does he have the right to speak by his own mouth he also has the right to speak by counsel or solicitor.”
