As set out in Perren v. Lalari, 2010 BCCA 140, the plaintiff must establish a real and substantial possibility of a future event leading to an income loss before the court will embark upon an assessment of the loss. Once that is established, the quantification of the loss is done using either an earnings approach (when the loss is easily measurable) or a capital asset approach (when the loss is not easily measurable:
