Does the court have any authority or authority to order interim maintenance for a child where the issue of paternity is in issue?

Manitoba, Canada

The following excerpt is from Kasper v. Zwizda, 1985 CanLII 3707 (MB QB):

The earlier decision of McTavish v. Meiklejohn held that there should not be any absolute rule laid down that no interim orders should be made where paternity is in issue. In that case, the respondent had paid support volun tarily for the child for five years and payments ended when the parties had a dispute over a chattel. The court granted interim maintenance in that case.
