Is an expert's report required to establish the best interests of the child?

Alberta, Canada

The following excerpt is from C.S. v. T.L., 2003 ABQB 1013 (CanLII):

My function is to consider a variety of factors that can impact on the best interests of the children. An expert's report is not routinely required to establish the best interests of the child and I am not obliged to have one before deciding on parenting matters. (Young v. Young, at para.156).
