How is child support calculated when the income of the spouse is lower than the husband's?

Alberta, Canada

The following excerpt is from Bailly v. Bailly, 1991 CanLII 6210 (AB QB):

This is the approach that was taken in Paras v. Paras, supra, at p. 135 [O.R.], by Kelly J.A. The Paras formula has been criticized as being unfair to the spouse with the lower income. This criticism can be overcome by giving both spouses a subsistence amount before determining their respective shares of child support.
