How do courts order disclosure of documents in stages?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Natural Trade Ltd. v MYL Trading Ltd., 2019 BCSC 1368 (CanLII):

One way the court may achieve proportionality is to order disclosure of documents in stages. Ordering disclosure of documents in stages may be appropriate where the court is concerned that listing all material may impose an excessive load. It may also assist in avoiding duplication and irrelevance: Beazley v. Suzuki Motor Corporation, 2009 BCCA 57 at paras. 15-16.
