What is the legal authority for invalidating a marriage?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from Chhokar v Bains, 2012 ONSC 6602 (CanLII):

There is one other legal authority that requires mentioning, Kanafani v. Abdalla 2010 CarswellOnt 4579, a decision of Justice Spies of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. This is a case in which the marriage was ruled invalid with the learned judge finding that there was no evidence the parties intended to comply with Ontario law.
