What is the impact of a detour to a trial co-ordinator’s office to obtain a trial date?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from R. v. Mooney, 2003 CanLII 30791 (ON SC):

Wherever the detour to a trial co-ordinator’s office to obtain a trial date is necessitated by Ontario Court of Justice local practice, causing counsel to depart the public courtroom and the on-the-record recording of a court of record, before coming back into the courtroom to formally announce the trial date, there is a high priority on defence counsel to articulate their client’s exact position on the record as to the suitability of the offered date: see generally Regina v. Spajic, [2003] O.J. No.2791 (S.C.J.).
