The purpose of non-pecuniary damages is to compensate a plaintiff for pain, suffering, loss of enjoyment of life and amenities (Trites v. Penner, 2010 BCSC 882 [Trites] at para. 188) and provide “reasonable solace for [the plaintiff’s] misfortune” (Lindal v. Lindal, 1981 CanLII 35 (SCC), [1981] 2 S.C.R. 629 [Lindal] at 636).
